Kiran (S30) Solar Lantern
World's most affordable solar lantern
I was a core member of D.light Design's product development team that conceptualized, prototyped, validated, and finalized the design of D.light's newest product - the Kiran Solar Lantern. The goal of this project was to develop a super affordable rechargeable light for those living without electricity in rural India and other developing countries.
We traveled throughout India to conduct first hand interviews with rural families, shopkeepers, and local distributors to understand our customers and their needs. Using the insights from this field work and market research, I was deeply involved in driving the direction of the project through completing concept brainstorms, initial sketches, prototypes, user testing, engineering and industrial design.
Kiran wins a Spark!, highest honors in Spark Awards design competition.
Winner, Design Week's 2010 Consumer Product Design Award. Co-winner: iPod Nano.
